The demand for Section 8 and other subsidy programs is much larger than the stock of available vouchers and project-based units, resulting in very long waiting lists.
Some housing authorities have chosen to close their waiting lists due to the high demand. The Section 8 waiting list is maintained by the Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development.
All applications will be added to the waiting list according to the date and time of receipt.
Update Your Contact Information
It is a requirement to keep income, household composition, address and contact information updated on your section 8 application. To make any changes, please fill out a new application with any changes and we will update your original application. The application can be found HERE.
To protect your privacy and provide a documentation record of your application and changes, no information regarding the status of an application–including its status on waiting lists–can be given out over the phone or email. Please note that Metro Housing is not able to give you your exact ranking on the Section 8 waiting list or your estimated wait time.
Some waiting lists may open on occasion. Visit mass.gov for more information.
Metro Housing|Boston is currently selecting applicants from May, 2009.
For a one-member household to be eligible for assistance, the member must be either elderly or a person with a disability. If, upon selection for the waiting list, an applicant is a one-member household and is not elderly or a person with a disability, they will be ineligible for DHCD’s Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher Program and will be removed from the waiting list.
