Statement on the Recent Violence Against Asian Americans

As a former member of Boston’s Chinatown neighborhood, Metro Housing greatly values the contributions of the AAPI (Asian American and Pacific Islander) community, including many of our own employees. We therefore stand in strong solidarity with the local Asian American community and condemns the alarming rise in hate crimes against Asian Americans.

By signing this statement, we have joined with community partners in denouncing the violence and support the call to local, state, and federal governments. While the rates of violence have increased during the pandemic, racism directed towards people of Asian descent in this country is not new.

Hatred and harassment targeting any individual is an attack against our global community, and it is especially disturbing when it is directed at a particular group.

Metro Housing asks its participants, community partners and supporters to join with us in this condemnation by encouraging those who experience or witness acts of hate towards the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) communities to report those acts at stopaapihate.org.
