Robert Torres to Receive 2019 Champions of Housing Rising Star Award

Metro Housing is very pleased to honor Robert Torres with the 2019 Champions of Housing Rising Star Award.  Robert is Director of Community Benefits at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC), where he is part of the team overseeing BIDMC’s Community Benefits strategy. Their efforts include partnerships with seven affiliated community health centers, housing and other community-based organizations, along with advocacy groups and neighborhood committees.

Recently, Robert served as Director of Community Engagement at Urban Edge Community Development Corporation, a community development corporation in Boston with over 1,300 units of affordable housing. In that role, Robert led a team of community organizers and resident service coordination professionals, who provide services to residents that lead to positive health, educational and economic outcomes.

Robert received his Master of Public Administration degree from the University of Massachusetts Boston where his research focused on housing stability and correlating health outcomes. In 2016, he received the Rising Star award from the Massachusetts Association of Community Development Corporations. In 2017, he was selected for a three-year fellowship through the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation’s Culture of Health Leaders program – an initiative that provides training and support to leaders nationwide to help make their communities healthier and more equitable.

Previously, Robert served as Chief of Staff for State Representative Liz Malia.
