Mass Nonprofit News: Metro Housing Boston Raises $409K at Annual Celebration

November 23, 2019 — Metro Housing Boston, a Boston nonprofit that provides services to individuals and families to prevent homelessness and promote housing stability, recently announced it raised a record-setting $409,000 at its annual Champions of Housing celebration.

Metro Housing Boston said the funds will support privately supported programming, including specialized intensive services and programs, the Green Space Financial Coaching Program, and colocations.

The event, held Nov. 7 at the Boch Center-Wang Theater, surpassed by 17% the $350,000 raised last year, which then set a record. It also drew a record 275 attendees.

Funds were raise through ticket sales, sponsorships, and an auction. Key sponsors included NEI General Contracting, Platinum Sponsors, Bank of America, State Street Corporation, Winn Development, Beacon Communities LLC, Corcoran Jennison Companies, Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation, Keith Construction, Inc., National Lumber, Peabody Properties, Inc., and Superior Plumbing.

Honored at this year’s Champions of Housing event were John Keith and Shelley Hoon Keith of Keith Properties, Inc., Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, Pamela Feingold of Eastern Bank, Jesse Kanson-Benanav of B’nai B’rith Housing, and Robert Torres of Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.

Metro Housing Boston traces its origin to 1983 when the Boston Housing Partnership (BHP) incorporated to address the declining availability in Boston of affordable housing for individuals and families with low and moderate incomes. In 1991, BHP merged with Metropolitan Housing, Inc. to form the Metropolitan Boston Housing Partnership, which, in 2017 became Metro Housing Boston.

Metro Housing Boston today works with households in 30 Greater Boston communities to move them from homelessness to housing stability.
