Metro Housing Services During COVID-19

Metro Housing’s lobby is closed to the public until further notice. The foyer is open between 8:30am and 5pm if you need to drop off materials for a staff person via an accessible drop box.

Most staff are working remotely and are responding to messages left for them.

All scheduled appointments – including most inspections – have been postponed and will be rescheduled.

See the link below for more details about what to do if you cannot pay rent due to COVID-19.

The team at Metro Housing|Boston is pleased to be able to continue to provide services to those in need.  We know that even during a pandemic, homelessness and housing instability do not take a break.  We also realize that property owners have bills to pay and need to receive rent payments.  That is why we have prioritized lease ups and rental assistance and RAFT/ERMA payments.

The majority of our staff members are working remotely, and they are ready to help you.  For safety reasons, our office remains closed to the public. However, we are monitoring and responding to the email addresses below to ensure that your issues are addressed as quickly as possible.

If you have a rental voucher with Metro Housing, or are a property owner with a Metro Housing tenant, please call 617.425.6611 or email the Leased Housing Gateway

If you need general housing advice, supportive services, or assistance through RAFT (for issues such as rent arrears or a utility shut off), please call 617.425.6700 or email the Housing Hub

Here are some additional details regarding our operations:

  • All scheduled appointments are postponed and will be rescheduled to be held by video or phone, if possible.
  • Inspections for new and vacant Section 8 units submitted for lease-up will continue, as will emergency inspections needed for immediate health and safety reasons. All other inspections have been cancelled and will be rescheduled.
  • If you are seeking financial assistance from RAFT or ERMA to help pay rental or utility arrears, fill out the RAFT/ERMA Application and submit via our website.
  • Due to the large increase in the number of applications to our rental and mortgage relief programs, our response time (not approval time) to applicants is taking longer than usual. We appreciate your patience while our staff reviews the applications in the order in which they were received.
  • Online Section 8 and Project-Based applications are now available. If you would like to be added to the Section 8 wait list, you can click HERE for an online application.
  • Re-certifications are being performed by mail with additional outreach by phone and email as needed. For more information, contact
  • Many deadlines, including voucher expirations and hearings, will be extended.
